After the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, members of the newdemocratic Bundeswehr were permitted to wear their past Third Reich-era wound badges in new forms: The 1957 “de-nazified” version. The 1957 wound badges took the form of the 1939 badge, but excluded the swastika on the helmet.
